Is your organization delivering the best possible image-driven stories?
I can help!
You need someone skilled at working collaboratively, able to mentor and guide younger talent while working effectively and diplomatically with the most senior members of your internal teams and external clients.
With 31 years’ experience as a photographer and photo editor at The New York Times, I offer my clients a powerful mix of visual editing skills and the personal warmth you need in a professional who easily works within and across your networks, especially in stressful situations.
My talents as a picture editor are intersecting with my experience of shooting two Olympics, five Super Bowls and eight years as a member of the White House Press Corps, covering three Presidents. I was also a member of the New York Times photography team that won both Pulitzer Prizes in 2002 for its compelling and detailed coverage of the 9-11 attacks.
I was one of two Times photographers who made the successful transition into picture editing at the newspaper, assigning, mentoring and photo-editing in Sports, Weekend Foreign, National, Real Estate and Business.
I also became one of only two picture editors assigned to the Times’ then-new app, NYTNOW -- a 28-month-long experiment that brought new thinking to engage and attract younger readers. There I helped lead the way with visual storytelling; the app’s most successful elements are now part of NYTimes.com, which grows daily, with readership in the millions.
My versatility and skill at working collaboratively within multi-generational teams at the Times continues to offer value to my current freelance clients.
Today, working as a freelance photo editor, I mentor younger colleagues, sharing my insider details of covering historic events, deepening both their professional skill and the photo galleries and stories we create together at ABCNews.com.
I have brought my knowledge in digital publishing and editing skills to the United States Golf Association (USGA) as I work with their team in covering the Championships that they sponsor, including the U.S. Open Championship.
In my decade as Director of Photography for the annual two-week New York Times Student Journalism Institute, I selected and mentored four photographers per year, helping undergraduate students hone their skills. Several have gone on to thrive in the industry, shooting for The New York Times, Washington Post, Getty Images, Reuters and more.
Just as important, half of them remain close personal friends who turn to me for guidance and advice, even years later.
My mission?
Engaging your audiences with compelling, thoughtful visual content.
I look forward to exploring that with you.

* A note about the Week in Pictures galleries: These slideshows represent the week that I was part of a three member photo editing team that selected the images for the slide show. The thumbnail is the image that I selected and defended it's inclusion in that week's slideshow.
